What causes acne?
Acne, commonly known as a disease of the hair follicles on the face, chest, and
back, affects almost all males and females during puberty or adult females in
the period. Acne is not caused by bacteria infection although bacteria play role
in its development. It is closely related with the activity of sebaceous (oil)
glands attached to the hair follicles. With the stimulation of the elevated
levels of hormones at the time of puberty or the period, sebum (oil) produced by
sebaceous glands increases dramatically. Although sebum (oil) is a natural
substance which lubricates and protects the skin, its overproduction and
accumulation leads to clog the follicular openings or pores. The clogged hair
follicle gradually enlarges and a red bump occurs. With the follicle
enlargement, some cell walls may rupture, which allow bacteria access into the
deeper layers of the skin and then produce inflammation. If the oil breaks
though to the surface, "whitehead" has been formed. The "whitehead" will become
"blackhead" when the oil accumulates melanin pigment or becomes oxidized. If the
opening of follicle is sealed, the red pimple occurs.
Some other factors could play a role in acne development:

Friction from hairs, caps, chin straps and collars sometime can aggravate acne.

Environment:
Working
in the polluted environment or do the job like frying in the kitchen or dealing
with oils may produce acne.

Cosmetics:
Sunscreen, BB cream and foundations can seal pores. Creams and gels could block pores too. Avoid using the
products containing oil. Products
with "water-based" are usually safe.

Most of the ant-acne products you buy from drugstore usually use medicine to prevent the clogged pores to be infected by bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin phosphate, tretinoin are the medicine commonly used in these ant-acne products. Other drugs such as salicylic acid, retin a, differin can exfoliate skin. All these medicines do nothing with the sebum secreted by oil glands. So, acne will be back if pores are clogged again by sebum. Any methods that can break through the oil obstacles in pores can make acne disappear quickly.

at home. Remember don’t use too much. A thin layer of gel is enough.
